He has significantly contributed to the establishment of orofacial medicine as a recognized specialty in Sweden. Dr. Mattsson has been actively involved in the development of this specialty. Academic & Clinical Roles Dr. Mattsson served as a senior lecturer at the Universities in Gothenburg and Malmö, where he was affiliated with the Faculties of Odontology. He also held a position as a senior consultant at the Clinic of Medical Dentistry at the Central Hospital in Karlstad, Sweden. Research Contributions His research focused on various aspects of orofacial medicine, including the evaluation and treatment of oral infections, the management of oral mucosal lesions with emphasis on autoimmunity and precancer, and the manifestations of systemic diseases in the oral cavity. He graduated with high honors from Ghent University in 2008 and completed an internship at the equine clinic De Morette in Belgium. Subsequently, he worked for six years in a large equine practice in the Netherlands, focusing on orthopedics and dentistry. In 2012, he founded Equide, a veterinary practice dedicated to all aspects of modern equine dentistry, located in Schaffen, Belgium. Clinical Expertise – At Equide, Dr. Demey offers a comprehensive range of services, including routine dental check-ups, preventive dental care, bit-fitting, treatment of damaged teeth, minimally invasive procedures, advanced diagnostics, and consultations. The clinic is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities to provide the highest standard of care for horses, ponies, and donkeys. Professional Engagement – Dr. Demey is a founding member and Fellow (FNCED) of the Nordic College of Equine Dentistry (NCED), where he serves as vice chairman.
